Nicholas News by Smokey & Tigger April 12, 2026

Sooooo happy to see warmer days here and temperatures not dropping below freezing!  The birds are singing, the grass is turning green and everyone has a spring in their step.  Tigger and I are just counting down the days until we can get outdoors into our Paw Hut (from Amazon) out on the deck.  We’re the first indoor cats Mama has had, as living on the 3rd tee of the golf course, she’s aware of the risk of wild animals getting ahold of us kittens.  From huge scary-looking raccoons to fox, there are many different critters here that could harm us.  So we enjoy the fresh air without a worry, pouncing from platform to platform and resting in the condos.  It even has a heat resistant roof, making it much cooler inside than out.  Mama says we’re spoiled but we say, “Spoiled but not Rotten!”

Not only the birds are making new nests, this is the time of year when you start to think of a new home.  Maybe it’s time to downsize if you’re empty nesters, or upsize if your family is growing.  Time to move to one-level living, a bungalow, ranch style, or condo, if mobility is an issue or you’re tired of the maintenance of a large property.  Maybe you want to do some travelling, just lock the door of a garden home and Bon Voyage, off you go.  Mama can help you with that.  With 21 years experience and enhanced training, she’ll not only help you find the perfect home but walk you through every step of the process to be sure you are technically & financially protected.  She loves what she does and it shows.

We hope you’re out and about as the nicer weather unfolds.  Not a moment too soon after a long winter this year.  Time to start cleaning up your yard as nature unfold around you.  Can’t wait to see those trees leaf out and early blooms on shrubs & trees.

Big day today for Smokey & Tigger! We just turned one-year old and what big kittens we are for our age! Smokey is 11.4 lbs & Tigger is 13 lbs. Our vet says that Tigger has another year to grow as his father is a Maine Coon cat, growing slower and much larger! I can tell you that he’s a big bruiser now!!!

This being our first ever winter, we can’t believe what went on outside our windows yesterday!!! We’ve seen some snowfall this winter but nothing like the high winds, blowing snow & drifts we experienced yesterday and all last night! Our driveway, and those of our neighbours here in Rothesay, are still not cleared. We have a juicy barbequed chicken on hold at Cochran’s, just waiting for our driveway to get cleared. We love chicken, at least we know we’re going to have a yummy supper.

Our hearts go out to contractors working on home construction this time of year. Difficult enough any winter but with a storm like this, it’s a nightmare! Good luck guys and gals.

Mama and Cody are happy to be working with new buyers from out of country. Looking for something outside of Fredericton, towards Moncton, for commutes between the two cities. Looking for some acreage with the house (minimum roughly five acres) and a 3-5 bedroom house. It’s okay if the house needs some updating. Give Mama a call if you know of anything like this.

Getting super tired of the cold and snow already and this is only early February. Both snow and cold are new to us and along with everyone else we know, we don’t like it! Good thing we are indoor cats!!! We both did sneak out one day, but only got about 10 feet when we stopped dead in our tracks, realizing what we just ran out into. Whoa, what a nightmare. Mama picked us up quickly and we didn’t try that stunt again.

We are happy to see that the mortgage rates have lowered this winter and you can now lock in a 5-year terms at 3.99%. It’s getting increasingly difficult for buyers to get not only the home of their dreams but just finding a home in general. There is so little on the market. Be sure to look after your credit rating and if you’re thinking about buying a house, don’t finance anything else in the meanwhile or it will seriously affect your ability to get a mortgage. For example; a car, appliances, TV, etc. Get the mortgage first and then you can go ahead with smaller items.

Hope you are staying warm and safe on the icy roads!
