Located at 1826 Route 124 Springfield, Gillis of Belleisle Winery is an established 9.1-acre hobby winery designed and built in 2002 and upgraded in 2016 with nothing but the best! Designed by architect Tom Johnson to resemble a 1940’s country store. Built to the highest standards by master-builder Reg Potter well-known for incomparable quality, catering to those with discriminating taste. This property has so much to offer; everything from a gentleman’s hobby to profitable business, event planning to charming restaurant or private residence.  There are so many possibilities!  What a stunning setting for weddings, retirement, stag, birthday and engagement parties, family reunions or cruise tour destination with the reopening of the busy cruise industry which has already started as they visit the nearby city of Saint John.

If it’s peace and quiet, you prefer this is a wonderful setting for a private home in the center of a scenic countryside.  The perfect home site exists in the scenic 2-acre meadow located at the top of the vineyard surrounded on three sides by century-old deciduous trees with spectacular view of the surrounding valley towards Belleisle Bay overlooking the vineyard.   Or winery building itself could be transformed into a gracious home with its soaring ceilings and character galore.

Approximately 7 acres of vineyard is lovingly maintained and precisely spaced to allow for easy access of cultivation.  An abundance of grapes cling to vines over fencing under the warm Belleisle sun as they mature to fruition, all set to be picked this fall.

The winery itself is attractive from all angles, beautifully proportioned and inviting with its custom copper topped Coppola and copper weathervane. It’s very easy to see with a trained eye that no expense was spared here with the planning or construction.  But most importantly super well-constructed to R2000 specification of rarely seen double walled construction (full outer walls and full inner walls).  This means far above average insulation properties resulting in a cool interior in summer and easy to heat in winter.  The electrical is underground with a 600-amp entrance with 3-phase power which allows it to be heated with industrial electric ceiling heaters.  The extreme pitch of the roof allows for a complete and easy flow off of water keeping a dry interior.  The main floor is 3300 square feet with a 750 square foot finished loft for storeroom overlooking the production line.

The winery is beautifully landscaped surrounded with mature blue spruce, hawthorn and pine and backed by century old maple and beech trees.  Seasonally blooming shrubs include snowball, roses, hew, burning bush and wine & roses weigelia in a quiet, private setting with hand-laid brick terrace in the herringbone pattern provides an aged appearance surrounded by cedar hedge in the glorious sunshine.  Off the terrace is the covered arbor with built-in seat and hand-laid brick flooring.  Just another cozy spot to enjoy the scenery.  White peonies, lilies and ornamental grasses complete the picture.  The welcoming covered veranda is the perfect area to sit in the shade on a hot summer’s day as you sample your latest pour with friends and family.

The main entrance leads from the veranda to the tasting room or showroom.  This room features solid wood bead board covered walls, terra cotta tiled floor in the herringbone pattern, wet bar with solid wood dove-tail construction cabinetry, solid surface countertop, sink, dishwasher, wine cooler, glass holder and wine displays.  The highlight here is the gleaming stamped copper ceiling!  A large plate glass window opens up to the production area highlighting the depth of the grape to glass process.  Adjacent to the tasting room is the office also with copper ceiling, terra cotta floor tile and bead board full height covered walls.  Windows here overlook the terrace and the vineyard.  A hallway from the showroom leads to two washrooms, one for guests and one for staff.

Entering the production and crush pad area is nothing short of awe inspiring!  Lined with gleaming highly polished brush stainless steel vats for red and white wine as well as one that can accommodate wine or beer, oak barrels and the finest in production equipment you know immediately you’ve entered a serious production facility of the highly in-tune amateur or professional.  This imported production equipment is from Pesce, Mencorelli and Enoveneta in Italy and Criveller from Niagara Falls Canada and was added in 2016.
